FTP SERVER

BergerABAM provides an FTP (file transfer protocol) server for the transfer of files over the internet. Before transmitting files to the FTP server, your BergerABAM contact will need to provide you with the proper user name and password to log in. Anonymous access to our server has been disabled to prevent abuse.

FTP Server Interface Instructions

Open your web browser and go to http://ftp.abam.com:8021. The ":8021" part must be entered or you will not be directed to the server. You will be prompted for a user name and password.
Enter the user name and password provided by your BergerABAM contact. Click "OK" button to complete the login process.
Select the "Basic Web Client" and click the "OK" button. You will be presented with a list of files and/or folders available on the server.
To upload a file, double-click on the "upload" folder and click on the "Upload" button at the bottom of the directory. Select the file you want to upload and click on the "Upload" button to upload the file.
To download a file, double-click on the "download" folder and find the file that you want to download. Click on the "Download" button at the bottom of the directory and click on the "Save" button tosave the file.

Important Notes

You may only upload to the UPLOAD directory and only download from the DOWNLOAD directory. While this may appear restrictive, it is done so for security purposes.

The default account directory is completely cleared every Monday morning at 4 a.m.!

Use of the directory on the FTP server is not secure. Anyone with access to an FTP client or web browser and the proper user name/password will be able to obtain the files placed there. If the files being transmitted are sensitive, then a project-specific FTP account and location can be created for authorized access.

Problems Accessing FTP Servers

If you have difficulty accessing the FTP server, it may be that you need to change a setting in the browser to allow "Passive FTP." If this is the case, you won't see any files and your mouse will show a flashlight indicating it's waiting for data from the server. Enabling Passive FTP is typically necessary where either you or the remote server is behind a firewall. To change this setting, do the following.

Open the Control Panel.
Open "Internet Options."
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Scroll down through the "Browsing" section and check (or uncheck - depending on what you have currently set, do the opposite) the box next to "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)."
Click OK to accept the changes, close any open browser windows, and try visiting the FTP server interface again.

If you still cannot get the FTP site to work, it is possible you are trying to access the FTP site from a browser that does not support FTP (such as Firefox). You will either need to install a third-party FTP client (such as FileZilla) or use Internet Explorer (preferred). MAC users will need to use a third-party FTP tool.

If you still cannot get the FTP site to work, your company may have an ISA Server, Proxy Server, or Firewall that is blocking FTP. Please talk to your local IT Department if this is the case.
